The Oil Research Center offers scientific projects and services aimed at meeting the needs and expectations of the Oil Industry and provide timely information to clients and society in general.

The Corrosion Laboratory has been accredited since 2004 by the ISO Standard ISO / IEC 17025: 06. It has researchers with more than 30 years of experience, executing research projects all related to corrosion control in the oil and electric industry (refineries, drilling and extraction companies, thermoelectric plants).
It has 6 accredited tests, including electrochemical, gravimetric and metallography in order to:
-To determine the causes of the failures caused by the corrosion phenomena in the different branches of the industries of the country, with the objective of giving recommendations for the repairs, as well as to provide the preventive measures to avoid the occurrence of the same ones.
-Determining the corrosivity of different aggressive media in contact with the metallic structures of both industrial and civil facilities: atmosphere, water, soils, industrial means, etc.
-Evaluate and recommend the dosage form of corrosion inhibitor products.
-Evaluate the quality of metals and alloys by their structural study, chemical composition and mechanical properties, for the selection of suitable materials in different media.
-Execute projects for cathodic protection systems in maritime, underground and industrial installations.
-Conduct inspections and tests on pipelines such as: soil corrosivity, parasitic currents, electrical influences by high voltage lines, detect activity of microorganisms that cause anaerobic corrosion, continuous recording of potentials, cathodic protection systems, and designs thereof.
Characterization of catalysts, adsorbents and porous solids in general.
-Equipped cracking catalyst analysis (FCC) specialized service
-Evaluation of catalytic activity and absorptive capacity of catalysts and adsorbents used in the petroleum refining and chemical industry.
-Experimental Catalyst Plant: The experimental catalysis plant is designed for the production of catalytic prototypes that have been developed in the Unit. In addition, the tests are carried out in this plant in the pressure-reactor reactor of samples of catalysts originating from works of service to the industry or that are under development.
-Certification of the quality of crude oils: fuel, basic oils, oils for transformers.
-Characterization “ASSAY” of crude oil: Complete program, medium complexity, and reduced program.
-Selection of refining schemes of oils most appropriate for the production of:
Fuels, lubricants, mixed.
-Effectiveness studies of chemical agents.
-Optimization and use of Simulators.
-Solution for bottle necks of the units.
